Greenhouse Gab

No room for an actual Greenhouse, no problem, I have a solution!

I had a very small, cheap greenhouse that I bought from a box store once. It was great for one season, but fell apart over the summer that year. I decided I could do without and have since, but recently I have gotten into raised beds. Raised beds are great on so many levels, but here’s one special reason…creating a greenhouse on the spot!

You can head to your local store or go online to search for greenhouse kits. (There are also DIY raised bed greenhouse options.) All you need is hoops, clips, stakes, and quality greenhouse plastic (regular plastic will fall apart in the sun and you will have a mess to clean out of your beds).

Place the hoops at consistent distances. Grab your plastic and drape it over, making sure it is fairly even on all sides. Place your clips on the hoops to hold the plastic, and then stake the plastic into the soil. Make sure to have everything nice and taught in order for rain to drain off. Then VOILA you have your very own greenhouse!!

Here are a few reasons to go this route instead of a regular greenhouse:

  1. Space Saver! All you need are your raised boxes.

  2. Cheaper/Sturdier! The cheapest greenhouses you can buy do not last long.

  3. Portable! When you no longer need the protection, you can easily fold up the plastic and place the clips and hoops in a container or in a corner of your shed/garage.

  4. Multi-use! You can use the hoops and clips for a shade cloth or pest protection. (You would just need to buy the shade cloth or netting.)

Greenhouses help to extend your growing season, protect from elements when starting seeds, and protect from pests. Want to try this method but aren’t sure how to start? Head over to the store and book a consult!
